Gale Mead: About

Gale Mead

With a voice that has been compared to Eva Cassidy, Dar Williams, and Natalie Merchant, among others, Gale Mead sings with honesty and heart, whether belting the blues, singing tenderly of love and loss, or expressing her passionate concern about the troubled times in which we live. Her love of great music was nurtured at an early age listening to her father’s Billie Holiday records and her mother’s Beatles collection. She draws inspiration from singer-songwriters like Gordon Lightfoot and Joni Mitchell, and folk-rock legends like Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and Bob Dylan. She relishes singing music in a wide variety of genres, her voice, at once angelic and powerful, providing the unifying thread.

A Napa, CA native, Gale completed her Masters degree in Psychology in 1995, and subsequently traveled the world as a nature writer, underwater videographer and submersible pilot, including a five-year expedition with the National Geographic Society. In 2003, she turned her focus to developing her vocal, guitar, and songwriting skills. She has performed in various North Bay venues since 2004.

Music with a Message

Gale is a strong advocate for peace, justice, civil liberties and protection of the environment. She is happy to make herself available for a limited amount of pro bono work for fundraisers, festivals, and events in support of these causes, and can offer a set list tailored to audiences that share these values and want music that does more than just entertain. Much of Gale's original material addresses painful subjects such as the war in Iraq and the destruction of New Orleans. Her "progressive" set also includes shimmering renditions of songs by John Lennon, Bob Dylan, and others. Email us for more information!
