Gale Mead: Music

Miguel

Miguel got hurt in the war, and he’s never been quite the same
And he bares his teeth at the world, in his anger and his pain
He’d been a good boy, earnest and kind
All dressed in his fresh-pressed uniform, didn’t he just shine?
But we ain’t seen that grin, since I don’t know when
Since Miguel… got hurt in the war

Miguel got drunk again, and he damn near killed his best friend
And we watch him and we wonder, if his war will ever end
What happened to our sweet funny guy? Don’t bother asking Miguel
He’ll just say “you don’t want to know,” and you know it was worse than hell
And we ain’t seen that grin, since I don’t know when
Since Miguel… got hurt in the war

Miguel got hurt in the war, and his life was torn apart
Try not to think of what might have been, it’ll only break your heart
He puts one foot in front of the other, though he sometimes wonders what for
And day after day, he continues to pay, the unmeasured price of war
And we ain’t seen that grin, since I don’t know when
Since Miguel… got hurt in the war
